New Adjusting Today Released “Making the Policyholder Whole: Property Insurance Coverage for Both the Damaged and Undamaged Parts of a “Pair or Set””
Author, Gary Thompson explains to readers in this edition of Adjusting Today an exception where certain items that are not damaged in a natural or man-made disaster may actually be covered under an insurance policy in the event of a loss. This is referred to as a “pair or set,” or when the “property’s value is derived from the pair or set to which it belongs,” for example, a set of matching table chairs, where the table and half the chairs are damaged.
In industries such as hospitality matching furniture, linens, and other items is of utmost importance as it creates a sense of uniformity and brand recognition. This is an important coverage to obtain as not all policies include the pair and set clause.
