With the Atlantic Hurricane Season starting in a few days, residents along the Atlantic coasts should make sure their properties are storm ready. To help with these preparations, Geoff Williams of U.S. News & World Report put together a list of the actions homeowners should take before bad weather strikes.

In "How to Prepare Your Home for Storm Season," Williams points out that one of the keys to preparation (and recovery) is having a comprehensive homeowners insurance policy in place. To underscore this point, Williams spoke with Greg Raab, Director of Consulting Operations at Adjusters International, who as a licensed public adjuster has many years of experience working with hurricane and flood damage claims.

..."'Before a disaster strikes is the time to sit down with your insurance agent to be certain you are properly insured,' says Greg Raab ...If you live in an area that has hurricanes and floods, he stresses the importance of getting insurance that will protect you.

Raab adds that standard homeowners policies don't include flood insurance. 'Though limited in what it covers, flood insurance is provided through the National Flood Insurance Program and works differently from standard homeowners coverage,' he says."...
